A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
