Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
