US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to help others.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the administration to suspend refugee claims and cease providing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey told the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
