Shock as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the building supervising the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement said.
CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have have information to contact them.
"Evidence suggests they traveled on foot after the attack, and investigators have been following their trail to find their destination," stated a police chief.
Family and Public Reaction
His sister, a close relative, expressed the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were ready to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the community to not sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that aired on a South African TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various business ventures, including protective services, offering VIP protection services and protecting major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and was involved in building evictions.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A cabinet official commented he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He expressed his views without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my decisions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A party figurehead stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".
A media executive said that "Stock was not merely a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
