Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
