The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
