The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
