Torrential Downpours Exacerbate Conditions for Uprooted Gazans, Officials Warn
Intense rains over the last seven days have worsened the already dire circumstances of the vast number of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by aid groups.
"Terrible" Conditions Creates Grave Threats
A representative detailed the previous night's conditions as "awful", with precipitation so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the terrain.
"The recent weather was exceptionally difficult for the residents. The heavy rains were so intense... And the winds were so powerful," stated the official.
Authorities voice significant worry that young ones residing in tents in wet attire will fall victim to hypothermia and additional ailments.
Fatalities and Significant Destruction
The health ministry have reported that one baby has succumbed from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have been killed in building collapses triggered by the severe weather.
Other reports suggest a increased fatality count. Spokespeople stated that several structures had totally fallen and many others had been partly destroyed.
